Coinbase exchange launches CFTC-regulated futures for Solana and Hedera

Coinbase exchange has unveiled CFTC-regulated futures for Hedera and Solana. The launched offerings have introduced more crypto products to institutions in the U.S. market. Coinbase, a major U.S.-based crypto exchange, has introduced new offerings for institutions in the jurisdiction. The exchange announced it had introduced CFTC-regulated futures for Solana (SOL) and Hedera (HBAR), citing the increasing demand for futures among U.S. investors. According to the announcement, the exchange self-certified with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to list the futures contracts for Hedera (HBAR) and Solana (SOL). The exchange explained that the launch marked a new milestone representing the evolution of crypto derivatives’ regulations in the U.S. Coinbase highlighted that the new additions bring the total CDE futures contracts to 19 including the listings of Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin, Stellar, and Gold. In mid-July last year, Coinbase Derivatives launched margined futures contracts for Avalanche (AVAX), Chainlink (LINK), Polkadot (DOT), Stellar (XLM), and Shiba Inu (SHIB). Coinbase Derivatives said the contracts will give market participants a chance to manage risk, speculate on price movements, and invest with lower upfront capital requirements. The announcement detailed that the futures contracts are designed to have specific specifications inclined towards favoring market participants. These specifications include, 5 SOL per contract for Nano Solana Futures (SOL), 100 SOL per contract for Solana Futures (SLC), and 5000 HBAR per contract for Hedera Futures (HED). In August 2023, Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. (CFM), a wholly owned Coinbase Global, Inc. subsidiary, received regulatory approval from the National Futures Association (NFA) to function as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM). Since then, the exchange has extended its offerings to include crypto and traditional commodities contracts. The exchange also announced that its offerings will serve institutional investors by giving them access to regulated futures, including crypto and traditional commodities contracts. Coinbase’s announcement detailed that eligible institutions will now have access to futures trading through Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. Coinbase argued that the platform will effectively bridge traditional finance and crypto, giving the market participants the necessary tools for effectively managing crypto risk and exposure through advanced trading strategies. Coinbase exchange unveils EURC-USDC perpetual futures for crypto traders In the same announcement, Coinbase exchange unveiled EURC-USDC perpetual futures to give traders seamless 24/7 access to Euro price exposure. The traditional foreign exchange (FX) market is among the largest and most liquid financial markets worldwide. The financial market boasts over $7.5 trillion in daily trading volume, and Coinbase seeks to be part of it. According to Coinbase exchange, EURC perpetual futures will offer an alternative to Foreign Exchange trading. The exchange announced that the offerings dictate a major milestone toward enabling traders to unlock value on crypto rails and decentralizing global finance. EURC-PERP will offer a leverage of up to 20x to increase capital efficiency for traders while simultaneously providing instant settlement. Coinbase exchange explained in a blog that EURC perpetual futures will not expire, thus allowing for continuous Euro price exposure without the need to roll contracts. The exchange’s blog also explained that Eligible non-U.S. institutions can trade EURC-PERP on Coinbase International Exchange while eligible non-U.S. retail investors can trade on Coinbase Advanced. Coinbase announced that it will continue to improve its derivatives offering with new contract listings, enhanced trading tools, and risk management features designed to meet the changing investor needs.
