Tether signs blockchain adoption agreement with Guinea to drive tech innovation

Tether has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Guinea to explore the potential of Blockchain and P2P technologies. In a blog post on February 17, the crypto stablecoin issuer announced that it has entered into an agreement to begin the process of laying the groundwork for the country’s adoption of blockchain technologies and the creation of an environment that encourages innovation. Tether collaborates with Guinea to drive blockchain education and innovation The primary purpose of the MoU is to establish a solid foundation for the integration of blockchain technologies in Guinea through education, innovation, and sustainable development. Tether and the government of Guinea will work to ensure the sharing of knowledge and the adoption of best practices from international blockchain experts. One crucial aspect of this partnership is the establishment of blockchain education programs in collaboration with Guinea’s Cité des Sciences et de l’Innovation de Guinée (City of Science and Innovation of Guinea). These educational programs aim to increase public and civil service awareness and understanding of blockchain and thus equip Guinea’s youths to thrive in the global digital economy. Tether also plans to support Guinea’s “Innovation City” project, a national project that will build the country’s technology, research, and entrepreneurship hub. This project aims to create a hub for innovation and digital growth within the country to support Guinea’s wider plan to enhance its economic development through digital transformation. The “Innovation City” will be a critical asset in enhancing Guinea’s status as a leader in the digital economy. It will offer a home for businesses and tech startups to grow and possibly unveil new avenues for sustainable economic development. This MoU continues Tether’s track record of engaging with governments around the world to promote the adoption of blockchain. Some of Tether’s global engagements include the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland, and blockchain and telecommunication infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan. These collaborations have promoted the effective use of blockchain technologies while ensuring that countries like Turkey and the Ras Al Khaimah region have the right digital asset knowledge. Guinea’s leaders discuss MoU’s impact on technological sovereignty and digital innovation M. Djiba Diakité, chief of staff of Guinea’s interim president, Mamady Doumbouya, explained the importance of this MoU to Guinea’s technological development. Diakité said the country aims to open a new chapter in its technological development by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain and peer-to-peer solutions. He added that the MoU testified to their determination to position Guinea among Africa’s innovation leaders. Diakité further explained that the nation’s Simandou 2040 strategy is central to Guinea’s long-term plan to achieve technological sovereignty. The project aims to ensure that Guinea’s youths are well-positioned to solve global challenges and embrace the opportunities that come with the digital world. Alpha Bacar Barry, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation of Guinea, said that the MoU is a significant step towards achieving their vision of making Guinea a reference country in the field of technological innovation in Africa. Pr Abdoulaye Baniré Diallo, the project coordinator for Cité des Sciences et de l’Innovation de Guinée, shared the same view that the MoU provides a foundation for a sustainable and inclusive digital economy through the development of local capacity and the application of new blockchain technologies.
