Dune Lays Off 25% of Workforce in Major Restructure

CEO Fredrik Haga said the company is still financially stable and will continue investing in AI-powered blockchain data infrastructure. The layoffs now form part of a broader wave of job cuts across the crypto and tech industries, with companies like Coinbase, Block Inc., Gemini, and Crypto.com also reducing staff numbers this year. Dune Cuts 25% of Staff Crypto analytics platform Dune announced that it is cutting 25% of its workforce to restructure its operations and focus more heavily on its core data products and artificial intelligence initiatives. The announcement was made by Dune co-founder and CEO Fredrik Haga in a post that was shared on X on Thursday. According to Haga, the goal of the restructuring is to sharpen Dune’s focus around the data products that are used across the crypto industry. While the company did not disclose the exact number of employees affected, Dune’s LinkedIn profile indicates that the firm employs around 150 people, which suggests that dozens of jobs may be impacted by the cuts. Despite the layoffs, Haga explained that Dune is still financially stable and “well capitalized.” He also mentioned the company’s growing commitment to artificial intelligence and institutional crypto services. Dune is a platform that can simplify blockchain data access for both developers and enterprises, particularly through its Model Context Protocol (MCP). The MCP system allows AI tools and agents to interact with Dune’s infrastructure and create dashboards or workflows without users needing deep knowledge of SQL or complex database systems. Haga said that Dune sees major long-term potential in the tokenization of traditional financial assets, including currencies, stocks, bonds, and commodities moving on-chain. As a result, the company plans to continue investing heavily in products and services tailored toward institutional clients. Dune’s layoffs come during a wave of downsizing in the cryptocurrency and technology industries. Many firms have pointed to AI as both a productivity enhancer and a reason for workforce reductions. Earlier this month, Coinbase laid off around 700 employees, which represented approximately 14% of its workforce, due to its growing reliance on AI technologies. The wider crypto sector has already seen more than 5,000 job cuts this year. Block Inc. carried out one of the largest reductions in 2026 after reportedly cutting 4,000 employees in February. Crypto exchanges Gemini and Crypto.com also reduced staff numbers earlier this year by laying off roughly 200 and 180 employees respectively.
