Ripple CEO Makes Major Statement About Outdated SWIFT and XRP

Crypto YouTuber and influencer BullRunners (@BullrunnersHQ) recently posted a video on X featuring Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse speaking about the evolving landscape of cross-border payments. Garlinghouse emphasized that the financial system is entering a new phase, driven by blockchain technology and the concept of an “internet of value.” Garlinghouse pointed out that the payments infrastructure, particularly the SWIFT network, has existed for over 40 years. He acknowledged that while it has functioned effectively, it remains limited by outdated frameworks . Brad Garlinghouse: “We’ve used the same cross-border system for 40+ years — it worked, but it’s outdated.” “Upgrading SWIFT is like making a horse and buggy go faster… but why not just switch to a Ferrari? That’s #XRP .” #XRPCommunity #XRPHolders pic.twitter.com/S2Uv4blJl7 — BULLRUNNERS (@BullrunnersHQ) April 25, 2025 Ripple’s Approach Versus Traditional Networks Comparing Ripple’s approach to the existing financial system, Garlinghouse highlighted the company’s focus on democratizing payments, dramatically reducing costs, and increasing speed. He contrasted Ripple’s vision with the current operations of SWIFT, which he described as a closed network. While acknowledging that SWIFT has made progress through initiatives like GPI, he suggested that incremental improvements are insufficient compared to the potential of blockchain innovation. XRP has been pitched by many experts as a replacement for SWIFT , as it offers much faster transactions at a fraction of the cost. Garlinghouse drew attention to the broader shift seen during the rise of the Internet, noting that technologies such as TCP/IP and HTTP were foundational to the Internet of Information. He positioned Ripple’s work as playing a similar role in creating an internet of value, where value can move as easily as information does today. He stressed that Ripple envisions a future composed of many interoperable blockchain networks, rather than a single dominant player. This, he argued, would dramatically reduce the friction and costs associated with cross-border payments. Garlinghouse has previously championed inclusion in the crypto space, and he acknowledged that Ripple is not the only company contributing to this transformation. He highlighted the broader ecosystem of blockchain developers and innovators who are working toward the same goals. He noted that the competition has also benefited SWIFT, pushing the legacy system toward modernization efforts. Shifting From Outdated Systems to Advanced Solutions While Garlinghouse recognized SWIFT’s recent updates and positive steps, he emphasized that they are ultimately limited improvements on an outdated foundation. Referring to the evolution needed in financial infrastructure, he stated that upgrading SWIFT is “like making a horse and buggy go faster.” In contrast, blockchain-based systems represent a fundamentally different and more advanced solution. He said, “If we can actually just move to a Ferrari, let’s do that.” Disclaimer : This content is meant to inform and should not be considered financial advice.
