Sygnum Bank: "Institutions Are Bullish on Bitcoin and Altcoins, But 2026……"

While Bitcoin and altcoin prices have experienced major fluctuations in recent months, interest remains high. However, this interest is expected to decrease in 2026. According to the latest survey results of the giant Swiss cryptocurrency bank Sygnum Bank, institutional investors are increasingly turning to cryptocurrencies in the fourth quarter. A Sygnum Bank survey revealed that 61% of institutions plan to increase their cryptocurrency investments despite the sharp market correction in October. 38% of respondents plan to add more cryptocurrencies to their portfolios, particularly in the fourth quarter of this year. 73% of respondents stated that their primary motivation for crypto investments was the expectation of higher returns in the future. Additionally, over 80% of institutions have expressed interest in various cryptocurrency ETFs alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum, while 70% stated that they would expand their investments if staking rewards were allowed. “Institutions are no longer viewing crypto as a defensive tool, but rather as a way to participate in the structural transformation of global finance,” said Lucas Schweiger, Head of Digital Asset Research at Sygnum. Schweiger also added that the SEC may approve a number of altcoin ETFs once the US government shutdown ends, which could trigger a significant inflow of institutional capital. Despite all the positive developments, institutional investors stated that their expectations for 2026 were not very high. Participants indicated that they were considering slowing down their investments due to factors such as the possibility of limited interest rate cuts, dwindling liquidity in the markets, and regulatory uncertainties. Finally, the report concluded that over 80% of respondents viewed Bitcoin as a viable treasury or reserve asset. 91% of respondents viewed Bitcoin as a long-term wealth preservation tool, while 81% viewed it as a treasury reserve asset. 70% stated that holding cash over a five-year term is more expensive than holding Bitcoin. *This is not investment advice.
